Wasted

You need to waste more time.

Which may sound a bit odd.

Disruptive even, given that we live in a culture of productivity and achievement.

But, I dare say, your wellness and wellbeing depend on it.

When you’re constantly driving forward, you lose that fundamental connection to yourself.

You need time to just be.

All Jacked Up

I’m not proud of what I did.

I don’t do it very often.

When I do, I always regret it.

Because it leaves me all jacked up.

What about you?

Do You Over Grip The Ax?

Do you over-grip?

I know I do.

I noticed it last week when I was ice climbing.

It really wore me out.

Then I realized that over-gripping causes a lot of wear and tear almost every day.

Not just in ice climbing! But everywhere.

It’s probably due to what happened in my family growing up.

I think there may be a better way.

You Don’t Really Want It

“I’m not really motivated.”

“I’m not feeling the mojo.”

“I just can’t seem to get started.”

“I know what I should be doing, but I’m just not doing it.”

Coaching clients will say phrases like these from time to time.

They’re code.

Code for: I don’t really want to do what I say I want to do.

Because, you see, the people we work with are driven.

They achieve. They produce.

They get shit done.

It’s hard-wired. It’s part of their DNA.

So when they’re not doing something, it’s usually because they don’t really want to.

Wanting is the place of beginning. (And the want needs to be fueled by a sufficient “why.”)

So if you’re finding yourself stuck, ask yourself: “Do I really, really want this?”

If the answer is yes, connect with why it matters. Stop the perseveration. And get busy.

If the answer is no, that’s ok. Stop fooling yourself.

Put down the bone. Give yourself permission to walk away.
