When you want more; when you dream of more; when you’re ready to take that next step; it’s essential that you surround yourself with others who want for your success.
We tend to be the average of the 5 people we hang out with most: average in terms of where we live, what we drive, what’s in our bank accounts; average in terms of our hopes and dreams and aspirations.
And there’s nothing wrong with average.
But when average isn’t enough, find your people. That road beyond your comfort zone? It’s filled with beauty and magic beyond your wildest imaginings. And it’s so much easier to get there when you’re not walking it alone.

Fool yourself. It’s a pretty useful hack.

Newton’s first law: “An object at rest remains at rest unless acted on by a net external force.”
This law is well known to most of us as inertia.
Inertia stands in the way of your projects large and small.
It can stand in the way of your most cherished dreams too.
Fooling yourself often solves the problem.
Try it.
The Mental Game
Success in business is less about the experience you have or the tools and strategies you use, and much more about the mental game.
It’s easy to lose heart. It’s easy to want to give up.
Don’t.
Stay in the game. There are people who are waiting for you.
STOP Rehearsing
Rehearsing is important. But all too often, it’s camouflage.
Here’s what I told a client this past week about rehearsing:
“We are always getting ready to live but never living,” Emerson said.
The same can often be said about our work: We’re always getting ready to do the work, but never doing it.
There are people out there right now who desperately need you.
Stop rehearsing.
Go out and do the work.
An Extraordinary Failure
Achievement junkies and peak performers love goals.
Goals matter. They lead to degrees, and careers; to books and art; to sculpture, symphonies, and chapel ceilings. They’ve beat back disease and extended life. They’ve taken us to the moon and to the stars beyond.
But it’s pretty easy to blow by the moments of your life in the pursuit of your goals.
I learned that lesson (again) in the jungles of Indonesia.
Pursue your goals. With all your heart.
